Is Blogging Bad?

Can a company blog hurt your business? Yes, people have recently started acknowledging the fact that blogs can hurt business especially with the recent actions in other social media issues.

A blog should connect all the businesses social media so it needs to be set up to be optimal and be an asset for a business and not a burden. There are six common ways that a blog can hurt a business.

The main problem that all blog users will suffer is the blog will dilute your link profile. When trying to monitor the amount of visits to the business’s website or just to see the amount of search hits, people will have your blog come up in their search for insignificant words that are in your posts. This will throw off any data you are trying to collect, misleading the business and possibly causing harm to the business.

The other five reasons depend on how the owner manages the blog. First, never make the blog the home page of the business website. This will turn away customers who aren’t interested in your blog and are just interested in your product. Second, always make sure the blog is connected to the business’s website. This allows for easier access to the blog by your customers. Third, blogging too much makes you, the owner, concentrate too much on the blog and not enough on the business. Fourth, in contrast to the previous reason, making a blog and promising customers that posts will be done weekly and then falling through on this promise and not blogging shows customers that you don’t care about them. And finally when the blog is used to attack or to put down people, competition, or any other businesses this is an easy way to turn away customers.

A blog is usually a beneficial asset to a company, but when it is managed wrong it can lead to a decline in business. Can anyone think of any other ways that a blog can hurt a business?

I think blogs can be bad if they are not consistent, and if they are not about the business.
