Part time business owners

We have talked previously about part time business owners that work full time for another company.  I have found a few interesting tid bits that would help someone taking that path.  Get family members involved, by using family more work can be accomplished while allowing them to take part in your potential success.  Prepare to give up personal time, time will be required for the business on top of the time required for a full time job so personal time is the first area to be scaled back.  Focus on your current task, when you are at work do not let thought of the part time business interfere with your job.  Make the most of every minute, time is valuable and making calls typically has to be done in business hours so think about using time to and from work, as well as lunch and break time.  Take advantage of time differences, this concept relates back to using the most time available, but time before or after work can be used to do business with clients on the east and west coast while still being convenient for you and the client.  Do not overstep boundaries,  meaning do not use your employers time or resources for your business.  Be honest, make sure you are upfront with your boss as soon as possible about your business on the side most do not mind as long as it does not interfere with your work.

I do not agree with “Be honest”. I don’t see why you should have to tell your employer about your business. It is none of their business especially if you are following the preceding tip “Do not overstep boundaries”. What you do on your own time is your business.
